Art Paper (Double-Sided Coated)
Art paper with coating on both surfaces is called double-sided coated art paper. As a category of coated paper, it features excellent smoothness on both sides. Coated papers also include:

Single-sided coated art paper

Matte coated paper

Gloss coated paper

Specialty art papers

Raw Materials & Production Process:
Primary components: base paper and coating.
Base paper requirements: Uniform thickness, low dimensional stability, high strength, and good water resistance; must be free from spots, wrinkles, or holes.
Coating composition:

White pigments (kaolin, talc, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide)

Binders (PVOH, casein, modified starch, synthetic latex)

Additives (optical brighteners, hardeners, plasticizers, dispersants, wetting agents, matting agents, toners)

Production flow: Coatings are evenly applied via coater → dried → rolled into jumbo reels → supercalendered for finishing → slit, inspected, and packaged.

Ivory Board (White Cardboard)
While imported ivory board holds significant market share in China, domestic producers have potential to displace imports. Post-WTO accession, though import tariffs decreased, ivory board's high value (typically USD 950-1,100/MT) keeps absolute duty amounts substantial. Even when using imported zero-tariff wood pulp, domestic ivory board maintains price advantages.

Technical definition: A rigid, heavyweight paperboard with high basis weight. Historically, paper classification was based on basis weight:

Paper (lightweight)

Cardboard (medium weight)

Board (heavyweight)

Matte Coated Paper
Formally termed matte coated paper, this substrate exhibits lower reflectivity than gloss coated papers under light. While printed colors appear less vibrant than on gloss art paper, it delivers superior image refinement and premium tactile quality.

Key characteristics vs. gloss art paper:

Higher whiteness and thinner caliper

Enhanced ink receptivity

Superior stiffness and dimensional stability

Primarily used for color printing (black-white printing prefers gloss art paper or offset paper)

Kraft Paper
A high-strength packaging material characterized by toughness and water resistance. Available in three grades:

Unbleached (brown)

Semi-bleached (light brown)

Fully bleached (cream/white)

Technical specifications:

Basis weight: 80–120 gsm

Minimum breaking length: 6,000m

Exceptional tear resistance, burst strength, and dynamic durability

Production: Sulfate-process softwood pulp → Fourdrinier paper machine.
Finishes: Single-side glazed, double-side glazed, ribbed, ungrained.
Applications: Cement sacks, envelopes, adhesive-seal papers, cable wrapping, insulation papers, abrasive backing, printing cylinder packing.

Offset Printing Paper (Double-Sized)
Commonly termed woodfree paper or offset paper, this cultural/printing paper is known regionally as:

"Daoling paper" (historical name)

"Rough paper" (Taiwan market)

Manufacturing feature: Both sides receive sizing treatment to enhance surface properties.
Performance attributes:

Minimal dimensional change

Uniform ink absorption

High smoothness

Opacity with tight formation

Strong water resistance
