Self-adhesive Label material storage Tips in different seasons

Feb 24, 2025 Leave a message

As we all know, self-adhesive label involves a wide range of application industries, and is also the most convenient application of a functional label packaging material. Users from different industries have great differences in understanding of the properties of self-adhesive materials, especially for the storage and use conditions of self-adhesive products, which ultimately affect the normal use of labeling

Self-adhesive materials (also known as self-adhesive label materials) are widely used in packaging, logistics, printing and other industries due to their convenience and wide applicability. However, their performance is greatly affected by environmental factors, especially changes in temperature and humidity, which may cause problems such as glue failure, surface material deformation or base paper aging. In view of the climate characteristics of different seasons, scientific storage is the key to ensuring the stability of material quality. The following is a detailed description of storage points based on the characteristics of the four seasons.

Uses of thermal paper

I. Spring storage: moisture-proof as the main method, while taking ventilation into consideration**

1. **Environmental characteristics**

Spring is rainy and humid, and the air humidity is high (up to 80% in the south), which can easily cause the material to absorb moisture, resulting in a decrease in glue viscosity and wrinkling of the base paper due to moisture.

2. **Storage requirements**

- **Humidity control**: The humidity in the warehouse should be controlled between 50%-65%. It is recommended to use a dehumidifier or air conditioner dehumidification function to avoid placing it directly on the ground (it can be raised by 10-15cm).

- **Ventilation management**: Ventilate 2-3 times a day (avoid rainy days) to keep air flowing and prevent mold growth.
- **Packaging and sealing**: Unused materials need to be wrapped with moisture-proof film and sealed with tape; unsealed rolls should be placed in moisture-proof bags and vacuumed for storage.

**Second, summer storage: dual control of high temperature and high humidity**

1. **Environmental characteristics**

High temperature (up to 35°C or above) and high humidity (especially in the rainy season) coexist in summer, which can easily lead to softening of glue, overflow of glue, or separation of the base paper and the surface material.

2. **Storage requirements**

- **Temperature control**: The warehouse temperature needs to be maintained at 20-28°C. When it exceeds 30°C, air conditioning needs to be used for cooling. Avoid direct sunlight on the shelves (blackout curtains can be installed).
- **Humidity management**: When the humidity exceeds 70%, the dehumidification equipment needs to be turned on, and the edges of the materials need to be checked regularly for warping.
- **Stacking method**: Coils should be stored vertically (avoid deformation under pressure when placed flat), with no more than 5 layers per stack, and wooden boards should be used to separate the layers to facilitate heat dissipation.
- **Special material handling**: High temperature resistant glue (such as hot melt glue) can be appropriately relaxed to 30℃ for storage, but the inventory cycle needs to be shortened to within 3 months.

**III. Autumn storage: temperature difference control and dust prevention measures**

1. **Environmental characteristics**

The temperature difference between day and night in autumn is large (up to 15℃ or more in the north), and the dry climate may cause the material to become brittle. At the same time, the increase in wind and sand can easily pollute the surface of the material.

2. **Storage requirements**

- **Temperature stability**: Install a temperature recorder to ensure that the daily temperature difference does not exceed 10℃. In northern regions, heating equipment needs to be checked in advance to avoid sudden changes in glue fluidity caused by sudden temperature rise.
- **Dust protection**: The surface of the material is covered with dustproof cloth and cleaned with a soft brush before use; printed self-adhesive stickers require additional PE protective film.
- **Static electricity prevention**: Static electricity is easy to generate in a dry environment to absorb dust. It is recommended to use an ion fan or humidifier to maintain humidity at 40%-50%.

---

**IV. Winter storage: antifreeze and low humidity environment management**

1. **Environmental characteristics**

In winter, low temperature (possibly below 0℃ in the north) and dryness (humidity below 30%) coexist. The glue is easy to harden and lose its stickiness, and the surface material (such as PET, PVC) may be brittle.

2. **Storage requirements**

- **Temperature guarantee**: The warehouse temperature must not be lower than 10℃. Heating equipment must be installed in the north to avoid materials from being close to cold sources such as doors and windows.

- **Reheating treatment**: Before use, let the material stand in an environment of 15-25℃ for 24 hours to avoid direct high-temperature baking that causes glue stratification.

- **Humidity adjustment**: Use a humidifier to maintain humidity above 40%, but prevent condensation (can be used with a circulating fan).

---

**V. General Storage Recommendations**

1. **Packaging Specifications**

- The original packaging film must be kept until the moment before use, and it must be resealed with an aluminum foil bag after damage.

- Materials with a core diameter of less than 3 inches must be stored upright to prevent the center from being compressed and deformed.

2. **Shelf Life Management**

- The shelf life of ordinary self-adhesive labels is usually 1 year. The "first in, first out" principle must be followed and inventory batches must be checked regularly.

- The storage period of silicone oil paper base paper does not exceed 18 months. If it exceeds the expiration date, the peeling force must be tested before use.

3. **Safety Protection**

- Keep away from fire sources, strong acids and alkalis and other corrosive substances. Chemical labels must be stored in separate partitions.

Q: In addition, what storage requirements should self-adhesive label materials meet?

A: Please record the following requirements:

1. Do not open the original package before the warehouse materials are out of the warehouse.

2. The first-in, first-out principle shall be followed, and the materials returned to the warehouse shall be repackaged or repackaged.

3. Do not directly touch the ground or wall.

4. Minimize stacking height.

5. Keep away from heat and fire sources

6. Avoid direct sunlight.

Q: What should we pay attention to for moisture-proof adhesive materials?

A: 1. Do not open the original packaging of raw materials before they are used on the machine.

2. For materials that are not used temporarily after unpacking, or materials that need to be returned to the warehouse before being used, repacking should be carried out as soon as possible to ensure moisture resistance.

3. Dehumidification measures should be carried out in the storage and processing workshop of self-adhesive label materials.

4. Processed semi-finished products and finished products should be packed in time and moisture-proof measures should be taken.

5. The packaging of finished labels should be sealed against moisture.

By optimizing the storage plan in combination with seasonal characteristics, the service life of self-adhesive materials can be effectively extended to avoid waste and customer complaints caused by improper environment. Enterprises should formulate detailed temperature and humidity monitoring plans based on their own regional climate conditions, and regularly train warehouse personnel to ensure that operating specifications are implemented.
